龋齿 (Cavity) 是由一种称为变形链球菌的细菌引起的。这种细菌生活在口腔里，其生长繁殖依赖于糖和其他碳水化合物。当有碳水化合物存在时，变形链球菌就会产生一种能溶解牙齿釉质的酸，从而引起龋齿。含氟牙膏是一种能有效地帮助预防龋齿的方法。
