目前硫酸软骨素 (Chondroitin sulfate) 是使用天然物质 (鲨鱼 / 牛的软骨或者牛的气管) 或者通过人工合成方法制造而成的。研究结果认为使用软骨素及其辅助剂葡糖胺，可以改善骨关节炎症状，并且可能逆转骨关节炎的进一步恶化。
